Civic Society Meeting with co-chairs (Michael Gove & Maroš Šefčovič) of the Withdrawal Agreement Joint Committee
Our NIRWN Director, Louise Coyle was one of 9 representatives of Civic Society at the meeting on February 18th with the co-chairs (Michael Gove & Maroš Šefčovič) of the Withdrawal Agreement Joint Committee to discuss the implementation of the Protocol on Ireland / Northern Ireland.
Issues we raised on behalf of members included;
the lack of women represented at all the decision making spaces and the need to ensure gender balanced civic engagement;
the need for honest, clear and timely communication from all parties;
the essential role of civic society and women in particular as brokers of and custodians of peace.
The conversation addressed the current challenges with a focus on potential mitigating solutions.
Louise will was also on UTV news (about 15 mins in) talking to Marc Mallet about the meeting and how we ensure women have a voice going forward.
