Northern Ireland Rural Women's Network

Animate • Build • Connect

The ABC Programme supports committee members/trustees of rural women’s groups across Northern Ireland to strengthen what they already do well and to better prepare for the future.

Many groups reach a point where they ask:

  • How do we keep going as committee members step back?

  • How do we bring new women through?

  • How do we stay relevant, confident, and well-run in a changing environment?

ABC creates the space, support and confidence to answer those questions together.

Through a mix of workshops, peer learning, tailored support and practical tools, groups are supported to:

  • Go back to basics with mission, vision and values

  • Build confidence and leadership within committees

  • Strengthen structures and ways of working

  • Connect with other rural women’s groups

  • Plan clearly for what comes next

The programme is not about telling groups what to do. It’s about working with them, recognising their experience, and helping them build strong foundations that support continuity and growth.

Each participating and qualifying group also receives a £1,000 participation contribution, used in the way that best benefits their group.

Who the programme is for

ABC is open to:

  • Established women-led rural groups based in Northern Ireland

  • Groups that want to strengthen how they are run and prepare for the future

  • Groups willing to commit time to workshops, reflection and shared learning

Groups do not need to have it all figured out - ABC is designed to meet groups where they are.

Interested in taking part?

The programme runs in annual cohorts, with a limited number of groups supported each year.

How the application process works:

  1. Applications open once per year and are shared through the NIRWN website, email and social media.

  2. Groups complete a short application outlining:

    • Who they are

    • The challenges or opportunities they want support with

    • Their willingness to take part in the programme

  3. Applications are reviewed by the ABC team using clear criteria. Due to limited places, not all groups can be supported in each round.

  4. Successful groups are contacted directly and invited to join the programme. Unsuccessful groups are encouraged to apply again in future rounds.

When can I apply?

The next ABC Programme application window is expected to open in May / June 2026.

If you are part of a rural women’s group or know one that may benefit, we encourage you to keep ABC in mind and check back for updates.
